Caribbean expertise

The Caribbean Is Not a Single Risk Environment.

Caribbean risk varies by jurisdiction, operating environment, catastrophe exposure, infrastructure, market capacity, regulation, supply chains, recovery conditions, and business practice. These differences affect how organizations assess exposure, prioritize resilience, and consider insurance, risk-management, and governance decisions.

REGIONAL COMPLEXITY

Geographic Proximity Does Not Mean Risk Uniformity.

Geographic proximity does not create risk uniformity. Property, operations, continuity, logistics, regulation, insurance conditions, and recovery capability can differ materially by island and location.

Regional strategy requires local risk awareness.

CATASTROPHE & CONCENTRATION

The Event Is Only the Beginning of the Risk.

Hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes, and other hazards can affect far more than physical assets. Concentrated disruption can extend to people, utilities, communications, transport, suppliers, revenue, and recovery resources—shaping business interruption, financial pressure, and resilience. The strategic issue is how these consequences interact across the operating environment.

Resilience depends on understanding the consequences beyond the physical event.

OPERATIONAL DEPENDENCIES

Organizations Are Often Only as Resilient as the Systems They Depend On.

A resilient building cannot operate without the systems around it. Utilities, communications, transport, water, suppliers, ports, airports, and contractors can create dependency exposure even when the organization has no direct damage. For Caribbean operations, the continuity of critical external systems can be as consequential as the condition of the organization’s own assets.

CROSS-BORDER RISK

A Regional Strategy Must Still Respect Jurisdictional Differences.

Regional organizations may face different insurance requirements, licensing rules, market capacity, contracts, operating practices, and regulatory systems. A solution appropriate in one jurisdiction cannot be assumed appropriate in another. Insurance placement involving Caribbean exposures is coordinated through appropriately licensed and registered local insurance intermediaries and, where specialty or London-market capacity is required, through the appropriately authorized intermediaries within that market.

JGA Caribbean’s role is to help understand the exposure, define the insurance requirement, evaluate the appropriate market pathway, and coordinate with the authorized intermediaries required for the placement. Local intermediaries provide the jurisdictional authorization, market knowledge, regulatory compliance, and local servicing capability essential to the process. JGA’s broader risk, program, and specialty-market experience complements—not replaces—that role.

The objective is not to bypass the local insurance market or intermediary structure. It is to connect local capability with the broader market resources the risk may require.

INTERDEPENDENCE

One Disruption Can Travel Across the Organization.

EVENT → DEPENDENCY → OPERATIONAL CONSEQUENCE → FINANCIAL CONSEQUENCE → STRATEGIC CONSEQUENCE → RESPONSE & RECOVERY. A disruption can travel through the assets, people, systems, suppliers, and institutions on which an organization depends. Preparedness, controls, leadership, governance, resources, and appropriate risk transfer influence the outcome.

RESILIENCE

Resilience Is the Ability to Continue, Recover, and Adapt.

Resilience is the capacity to maintain critical functions, recover operations, and adapt as conditions change. Preparedness, continuity, recovery resources, financial capacity, and governance shape that response. It requires attention to the practical dependencies that determine whether the organization can continue operating through disruption.

RISK | INSURANCE | ADVISORY

The Environment Changes How Every Risk Discipline Must Be Applied.

INSURANCE — jurisdiction-sensitive coverage and legally appropriate placement pathways. RISK MANAGEMENT — direct exposure, dependency, continuity, and recovery planning. GOVERNANCE & ADVISORY — leadership, authority, accountability, and decisions through disruption.

ORGANIZATIONS WITH CARIBBEAN EXPOSURE

Caribbean Risk Is Relevant Wherever the Exposure Exists.

Relevant to organizations, developers, investors, and property owners managing Caribbean exposures—including U.S., Canadian, and European investors, U.S. expatriates, international developers, and international property owners—whose Caribbean commercial property, businesses, or investments may operate in a different jurisdiction from where ownership or decisions sit.

BETTER QUESTIONS

Regional Expertise Begins With Knowing What Must Be Understood.

Better regional decisions begin with the right questions: where is exposure concentrated, which systems are critical, how long can operations continue through disruption, which jurisdictional factors apply, and who has authority to respond?

START WITH THE ENVIRONMENT

Where Is the Exposure—and What Does the Organization Depend On?

Tell us where the organization operates, owns assets, invests, or has material interests, and the risk concern to be understood. JGA Caribbean can begin with the operating environment, exposure, dependencies, and an appropriate next step. Insurance availability, placement, and services remain subject to risk location, licensing and regulatory requirements, market availability, underwriting, and policy terms.
